Club news

Golf Access

Many of you may have noticed the forward tees which are now on the course. I am excited to announce that CST is now a Golf Access Centre. Golf Access is an exciting new format designed to help golf clubs encourage new participants to play golf for the first time, with the opportunity to learn the game on the golf course rather than solely on the driving range or pitch and putt.

We should be up and running with it within the next month so Roy’s junior coaching will implement this and any new beginners who are taking up the sport too.

Bunker work

Take a look at the video to hear what Dave and the team have been up to to recently on the bunkers.

Great work guys, let’s make sure we do our bit too by remembering to rake them after we use them in the correct way (pushing the sand back to the middle of the bunker, not dragging to the edges).

Why the recent surge?

Here’s some homework for you: the next time you're watching golf on TV, keep an eye on the number of pros using putters with larger heads. Whilst some golfers still prefer the traditional blade style putters from years gone by, over 60% of PGA Tour players have a larger headed putter in their bag today – the question is: why?

High MOI putters

These are all to do with stability, feel and alignment. When you take a look at Scotty Cameron's Phantom X 12 and 6 models (pictured above) you will see what we mean.

The larger head style of both putters is designed to increase MOI, which is crucial as it means the putter face will twist less at impact, especially when struck away from the sweet spot.

How do they work?

It's all to do with the additional weight in the extremities of the head when compared to traditional blade style putters, which helps to keep the face stable through impact.
