Golf on Tour

Popov and DJ in leagues of their own

There are sporting shocks, and then there’s the World No. 304 winning a Major! Germany’s Sophia Popov finished on -7 at Royal Troon to claim victory at the AIG Women’s Open. Despite having never won on the LPGA or Ladies European Tour before, the 27-year-old fought off challenges from stars like World No. 8 Minjee Lee and seven-time Major Champion Inbee Park.

Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour, Dustin Johnson won The Northern Trust, the first FedEx Cup playoff event, by shooting a staggering -30. That ended up being an 11-stroke victory, which raises the age-old question of what’s more entertaining:

Club Championship

Congratulations to Gareth Hedges for winning this year’s Scratch Cup (Club Championship Gross) and Handicap Shield (Club Championship Net) with scores of 138 & 134. Gareth beat last year’s Champion Aaron Crabb by a shot to win the Scratch Cup and beat Neil Mansey by 4 shots to win the Handicap Shield.

Upcoming competitions

This Bank Holiday Weekend we have the Sibley Cup running on Saturday 29th, Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August. This will involve separate prize pools over each of the 3 days with the trophy being contested over the entire weekend. Stableford - White Tees.

In the same format, we are introducing a Junior Championship over the weekend too. This will be a Stableford off the Yellow tees and entries can be made each day, the winner having the best score over the weekend and will win the Hodgkinson Trophy.
